Spruce Up Your Space with Some Plants from Ikea!
Hello friends! So since I’m pretty new to this whole blogging thing I thought I would write posts that share a little more about me, and that will help you get to know the kind of person I am. One thing that I’ve discovered about myself is that I LOVE having plants in my room and as part of my decor. Now, I’ve always liked certain kinds of plants as part of any design aesthetic but I never thought I could pull it off. And the reason is because I’m kind of a plant killer….yes, you heard me….a plant killer. I have a history of not being able to keep any plants alive. I start out with good intentions, but then I either forget about them and don’t water them or idk really…but they would all inevitably die.
But recently, I’ve been wanting to see if I can change this and actually get a small plant and manage not to kill it. For some people, this wouldn’t seem like such a challenge but for me it was. I went with my roommate to IKEA one weekend and decided I wanted to get a small one that didn’t require much water or a huge amount of direct sunlight. I picked up the little guy that is in the photo. I thought he looked sassy for some reason and wanted him immediately. And you’ll notice that I’ve called it a “him”, and I’ll explain my reasoning on that. So I figured, what can I do differently this time around to make sure my new plant friend won’t die. And it hit me….DUH…I’m going to name him! Yes, it’s brilliant I know. I really wanted to make sure this plant would stay alive, so I decided to give my plant a name and by giving him a name I would become attached to him. And if I became attached to him I would be less likely to just forget about him and let him die.
I thought it was the most genius plan ever! I ended up naming him Phineas (from the Disney Channel show Phineas and Ferb)…he just looked like a Phineas to me. So I tell you all this just to say that my dumb little plan to not kill my extremely low maintenance plant worked! He didn’t die, and he’s in fact still alive. I’m so proud, as sad as it is to say, I’m so proud I’ve been able to keep my little plant friend alive. I’ve also since then added to my plant family, I got an identical plant from IKEA and I named him Ferb….super appropriate and predictable I know..!
These guys liven up my space so much, I love having that little touch of green at my desk or on my nightstand. I’m hoping that I’ll be able to get some bigger, cooler plants to add to my room down the road. But for now, I’m just taking it slow with my small, low maintenance guys. Wow, this post may be a little silly, but it makes me happy and excited! And if it inspires or encourages any of you to go out and try something like I did, then that’s all I can really hope for. Also, if any of you have any cool plants that you’re obsessed with, I would hope you would comment down below and share a photo! If you want to check out Ikea’s plant offerings for yourself, check out their plants to find the perfect one for your space.
Thanks for taking the time to read this silliness and I hope you’ll continue to do so.
